Meet the Sports Medicine Staff

Lebanon School District Licensed Athletic Trainers

Keith Varney, M. Ed., ATC, LAT

Keith Varney, M. Ed., ATC, LAT Keith has been employed as the Head Athletic Trainer at Lebanon School District since 2012. Keith studied athletic training at Penn State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training in 2005. Upon graduating, he pursued a Master of Education Degree in Health Education from Penn State University, completing his degree in 2006. Keith has worked in all levels of athletics, as well as in physical therapy clinics during his athletic training career. Through the support of the administration, boosters and parents, the athletic training program has evolved into a full-scale healthcare service providing a wide range of care to the student athletes at Lebanon School District. He enjoys woodworking, and spending time with his wife, twin boys, and dogs.
 

Caitlin Foltz, ATC, LAT

Caitlyn Foltz
Caitlin has been employed as a athletic trainer at Lebanon School District since the fall of 2016.  Caitlin studied athletic training at Messiah University and in May 2006 graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Athletic Training. She is a nationally board-certified athletic trainer through the Board of Certification and a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Pennsylvania. She serves as a preceptor for the Athletic Training Program at Lebanon Valley College. Caitlin is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA) and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society (PATS). She enjoys traveling, kayaking, skiing, spending time with family, friends, and dog.

Team Physicians

Dr. Cayce Onks

Dr. Cayce Onks Cayce A. Onks, DO, MS, ATC started his career in Sports Medicine as a Certified Athletic Trainer following graduation from The University of Tennessee with a degree in Exercise Science and Master's Degree in Athletic Training from Ohio University.  After 3 years of practice Dr. Onks returned to school and graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). He completed a Family Medicine residency at the Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Sports Medicine Fellowship training at Penn State University in 2012. He currently serves as the team physician for Lebanon Valley College and Lebanon High School.  He has comprehensive family and sports medicine practices that include evaluation and management of orthopedic injuries, exercise prescription, sport related concussion, medical management of athletic related illness, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Dr. Robert Gallo

Dr. Robert Gallo Robert A. Gallo, MD, MHA graduated from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in 2002. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. Gallo is currently the Program Director for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency and is a Professor in the Department of Orthopedics. Among other roles, he serves as the medical director for the Harrisburg Senators baseball team and as the Orthopaedic Team Physician for Lebanon Valley College. He has special interests in the care of overhead athletes, rotator cuff injuries, multi-ligamentous knee injuries, and articular cartilage defects. Dr. Gallo is a sports enthusiast and an avid tennis player. He lives in Palmyra with his wife, Carla, and their two children.

Dr. Matthew Silvis

Dr Matthew Silvis Matthew Silvis, MD graduated from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in 2002.  He then completed a Family Medicine Residency at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC.  After residency, Dr. Silvis practiced wilderness medicine in rural Wyoming before returning to Wake Forest where he completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine.  Dr. Silvis is currently a Professor in the Departments of Family and Community Medicine & Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at Penn State College of Medicine and Division Chief of Primary Care Sports Medicine.  Dr. Silvis also serves as Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Physician Lead for Value Based Care and Population Health for Penn State Health.  He serves as medical director and head team physician for the Hershey Bears Hockey Club and Hershey High School.  He has special interests in the care of endurance athletes, exercise, and concussion.  Dr. Silvis enjoys hiking, running, gardening, and photography.  He lives in Hershey with his wife and children. 

Dr. Scott Lynch

Dr. Scott Lynch Dr. Scott Lynch joined the faculty at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in June of 1998 as an Orthopedic Surgeon with sub specialization in Sports Medicine. Prior to coming to Hershey he did his Orthopedic residency at the University of Vermont and then did two Sports Medicine Fellowships, one at the Cleveland Clinic and one overseas at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and is the Director of Sports Medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He has been awarded the Vincent D. Pellegrini, Jr. Resident Teaching Award in 2002 and 2007. He has been the Practice Site Medical Director for the Adult Bone and Joint Clinic since its opening in 2008. He serves as a team physician for several area high schools, as an assistant team physician for the Hershey Bears hockey team. Dr. Lynch was a collegiate wrestler at Penn State University and has previously served as a volunteer wrestling coach for a local high school. He enjoys biking, cross-country skiing and playing guitar in his free time. He lives in Hershey with his wife, Deborah.
